Team Japan recaptured the ISU World Team Trophy title they had won once before in 2012. Japan totaled 109 points over the three days of competition. Team Russia moved up again to second place to claim the silver medal with 105 points while three-time and defending champions team USA earned the bronze with 97 points.

Nico Ihle delighted the home crowd winning the Men’s 500m on Day 1 of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup at the Sportforum in Berlin. Nao Kodaira took her fifth World Cup win in the 500m, America’s Heather Bergsma won 1000m gold, and Kjeld Nuis (NED) won the Men’s 1500m.

The ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2017 opened in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Wednesday with the Ladies and Pairs Short Programs. The ISU European Figure Skating Championships are held in Ostrava for the first time in history. 166 skaters from 33 ISU members have been entered for the Championships. Skaters/couples need to have obtained a minimum total technical score in Short Program and Free Skating in order to compete at the European Championships. Three reigning European Champions are back and hope to defend their title.

Kai Verbij has won the inaugural Men’s European Sprint title to the delight of the home crowd in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Day 2 of the ISU European Speed Skating Championships. Compatriot Ireen Wüst also gave the crowd a title to cheer for, when she took her career fifth Ladies’ European Allround crown.
