Over 350 Delegates from 85 ISU Member federations were present to vote on over 370 proposals and to elect candidates to ISU Office. The final day of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 resumed today in Seoul, Korea with both the Ladies and Men competing in the 1000m, 3,000m Super Final and Relay events. Brittany Bowe (USA) and Kjeld Nuis (NED) went home with the Grand World Cup at the World Cup Final in Heerenveen on Sunday. In the final Men’s 500m race Ronald Mulder grabbed the first Dutch season win in the shortest distance. Bowe took her fourth win of the weekend in the ladies’ 1000m, Denis Yuskov (RUS) added another gold to his row of 1500m medals and the season was concluded with two spectacular Mass Starts. Irene Schouten (NED) won the ladies’ event after crashing early in the race and Bart Swings (BEL) took the men’s gold.

Sven Kramer (NED) anticipated on a record extending eighth world allround title, when he took a firm lead in the classification after Day 1 of the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Berlin. His rivals crashed, withdrew or just had to settle for Kramer’s supremacy in the 5000m. Martina Sábliková (CZE) and Ireen Wüst (NED) put up a great fight in the ladies’ competition. The Czech lady edged out Wüst in an exciting 3000m and leads overnight with a 0.03 margin in Sunday’s 1500m over her Dutch arch rival.

Berlin will host the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships for the third time in history. Sven Kramer leads the Dutch quest to equal Norway’s record total of 36 World Allround titles in the Men’s tournament at Sportforum Hohenschönhausen. Martina Sábliková (CZE) and Ireen Wüst (NED) will probably reignite their battle for the ladies’ crown after Wüst’s absence on the international stage in the first half of the World Cup season. Kramer and Sáblíková are the defending Champions.

The 47th World Sprint Championships in Seoul give the world’s best sprinters a taste of Korea two years before the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. Seoul hosts the World Sprint Championships for the second time in history after Jeremy Wotherspoon (CAN) and Monique Garbrecht-Enfeldt (GER) took the titles there in 2000. The United States lead the all-time medal table of the World Sprint Championships with 20 gold medals, ahead of Russia (combined with the Soviet Union) with 15 and Canada with 10. Korea is seventh on the list with a total of seven titles.
