Following the outcome of the ISU Conferences held in March 2017, the ISU Development Commission decided to organize a seminar for (inter)national coaches of top speed skaters participating in the World Cup series, who are present at the World Cup in Heerenveen. The seminar will be organized by the ISU and The Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB) in cooperation with the Center for Top Sports and Education (CTO) Heerenveen.
Program

The seminar will take place between 16:00 and 20:30 and will be divided into two parts. In the first part (16:30 – 18:00 uur) Wilf O’Reilly, Discipline Manager Short Track at the KNSB, will explain how Short Track training helps long track Skaters improve their performance. And vice versa : how can Short Track Skaters take advantage of long track targetted training . Overall World Short Track Speed Champion in 1991, Wilf has a huge experience in his domain and now works closely with coaches, the Dutch Short Track team and with the ISU.

During the second part of the seminar (19:00 – 20:30 uur) Jos de Koning, Associate professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will explain how to conduct and interprete off-ice performance tests. Roy Mulder, embedded scientist at the KNSB, will provide insight in what makes a skater do a good skating performance? In his seminar Roy will speak about the newly developed Sprint Coach Application, which helps coaches monitor on-ice performances.
