History

The Football in the Community Scheme was first established in 1986 by The Footballers' Further Education & Vocational Training Society. Created by the Chief Executive of the Society, Micky Burns, the scheme was first set up on a pilot basis with six North West based clubs. Now supported by the FA Premier League, The Football League, The Football Association and The Professional Footballer's Association, the scheme now supports 95 Football in the Community projects mainly at professional clubs in England and Wales.

Indeed, significant funding from The Football Trust in 1991 enabled the scheme to expand to cover the whole of the country from Newcastle in the North East down to Plymouth in the South West. Major sponsorship and funding has significantly enhanced the programme of work undertaken by the scheme which offers activities largely to boys and girls of between 6 and 16 years of age, although other activities attract community involvement from other age groups.

Coventry City FC Football in the Community Scheme is headed by Tony Evans, Former Birmingham City, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, Blackpool, Cardiff City, Bolton Wanderers and Swindon Town player.
