Community Officer - David Busst
David Busst will be best known when he was an excellent defender for Coventry City Football Club. However, when his career was cut short after breaking his leg against Manchester United, David joined Coventry City Community Scheme as an assistant officer in September 1998. He has successfully been running all activities in the Coventry area for the last five years. This has included going into local schools offering free curriculum coaching and running after school clubs for children to take part in out of school hours. As well as this, during school holidays David has run holiday courses all over Coventry for children to take part in, many of which have over 100 children taking part each day. In March 2003 after many years’ hard work David was appointed the Community Officer for Coventry City Football Club. During his time with the Community scheme David has completed his coaching qualifications including his UFEA C in 1997. Then he moved on to complete his UFEA B in 1998 and finally his UFEA A in 2000.
Assistant Officer - Shaun Pierce
Shaun Pierce first came to Coventry City Community Scheme as a 15-year-old on a two-week work experience placement. After the two weeks he was told about an exciting opportunity to join the Community Scheme as a YTS Trainee coach. In August 1997 he took the opportunity to do his two-year placement. During those two years he successfully completed a college course in Leisure & Tourism and completed his level 1 coaching licence in 1997 and then moved on to his UFEA C in 1998. After his two years had finished he was offered a full time position as an assistant to the North Warwickshire area. He also carried on his studies and completed a HNC Sports Science course at Henley College. In 2001 Shaun completed his UFEA B coaching award and in March 2003 became David Busst’s assistant. Part of Shaun’s job is to run the JSB activities which include the Saturday Club and Away Day Travel. He also runs all the after school club and holiday courses in the surrounding areas of Coventry.
YTS Coaches - Mark Bowerman
Callum Simpson
September 2002 was an exciting time for Coventry City Community Scheme as it appointed two new YTS Trainees. Since joining the scheme both Mark and Callum have been taking a course at Henley College and are working successfully towards a National Diploma in Sport. As well as this they both achieved there Level one in 2002 and have since completed there Level 2 in 2003. Callum also plays for Bedworth United Youth Team in his spare time. They have both been a huge success in helping the scheme be successful.
Casual Staff
As well as the full time members of staff the Community Scheme also employs around 30 casual members of staff who all help with the running of the coaching activities such as Saturday Club, After School Clubs and Holiday Courses. Without these members of staff the scheme would not be able to coach as many children as it successfully does at the moment.
