Wooden Spoon 1st XV

National First XV

When Geoff Morris first came onboard as the new Wooden Spoon Chief Executive he introduced many new innovative ideas and projects. One of which is the Wooden Spoon’s 1st XV – a line up of the most supportive and proactive of Wooden Spoon’s sponsors.  The idea is to give more recognition and benefit to the companies that support us and build these partnerships into a single winning team. Since its initiation, the 1st XV team has grown in stature and now comprises of large multi-nationals, as detailed below.

Members of the 1st XV receive benefits such as entry into Spoon golf days, gala dinners and hospitality at some of rugby’s biggest events, to complement their premier event sponsorship (Vauxhall Four Peaks Challenge, Ford Great Lakeland Challenge etc and OKI Golf Classic Series). The members will also have an active role in the development of the Spoon’s socially inclusive grass roots rugby projects. There alignment with the 1st XV allows them the opportunity to have an immediate and definite impact on their community through junior rugby. As more companies join the 1st XV, the partnership grows and becomes a stronger unit, not only benefiting each of them but most importantly benefiting the Wooden Spoon Society. If you want to get involved at the corporate level, but would like to look at more modest packages, please see our Sponsors and Partners page for information.

The current National First XV is listed below.

Regional First XV

The success of the National 1st XV has encouraged the Regional coordinator, Tony Richards to look at introducing Regional 1st XV’s. This has now been tried and tested in Somerset and teams are growing rapidly in regions across the country.

The great advantages of the Regional 1st XV is that everyone is a winner. Most regions host no more that 5-10 events per year and seeking sponsorship and support for each individual and varied event can be difficult and very time consuming.

Often companies do not want to spend large sums aligning themselves with a ‘type’ of event. £1,000 from 15 companies is a lot more manageable for everyone Establishing a 1st XV ensures that every event is sponsored and provides substantially more exposure for the 1st XV members, thereby maximising value for everyone.

If you think your company would be interested in becoming part of your Regional 1st XV please get in contact with your Regional Chairman and help the Wooden Spoon provide another 20  years of support for disadvantaged children and young people.
