Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge 2006
Between Thursday 29th June and Saturday 1st July 2006, 60 teams will climb four of the highest mountains in Scotland, England, Wales & Ireland totalling 14,000 feet and drive 1,900 miles non stop within 48 hours to raise funds for the latest Wooden Spoon projects.
The Challenge is a four person, sixty team event (three competitors and a driver) and each team is required to raise a minimum of £4,400. In return the teams are supplied with everything they need to complete the event – food and energy apart! Points are awarded for both climbing times and fund- raising totals and safety is paramount, each team will be fully briefed and equipped to conquer some of the roughest terrain in the UK.

Over its 16-year history the challenge has received incredible corporate support from blue chip companies throughout the UK leading to a staggering £4 million being pledged to Wooden Spoon by four peaks teams and their sponsors.
For the last fifteen years, Vauxhall has been the title sponsor of this incredible event providing vehicles for teams and marshals to travel the 1,900 miles across the British Isles. Sadly Vauxhall have withdrawn their support as a sponsor this year but the number of teams from the corporation is expected to reach a peak this year, emphasising the wonderful profile the event has gained within the company. Wooden Spoon would like to thank Vauxhall for its unstinting support and commitment to the event and wish the company success with its future endeavours.
In 2006 Wooden Spoon are delighted to announce that a Corporate Challenge is being launched jointly by Accountants, Deloitte & Touche, Legal firm, Clifford Chance and Cargill, the world’s largest privately owned company. 15 ‘elite’ corporate teams will compete against each other (and the remaining 45 teams) by raising a minimum of £15,000 each (teams would be ‘encouraged’ to raise around £25k) – this alone would raise at least £225,000 which would take the expected pledged total for the 2006 challenge to well in excess of £500,000.
The launch of this new Corporate Challenge took place on the 30th floor of the Clifford Chance offices in Canary Wharf with veteran four peakers Gavin Hastings and Peter Wheeler talking about the pain and rewards of participating in the challenge. It is hoped that their support will have stimulated many more corporate and individual teams to take up the Challenge.
