“We had a rough and difficult Short Program skate, but it can’t be perfect every time. We’re going to start fresh tomorrow, it’s going to be a new day,” Stellato-Dudek said. “For this season, our goal is to improve our score every time we come out. At Skate America we were very pleased with the score we got, but our goal was still the same. Unfortunately, it was not like this today, but we still improved some stuff that we wanted,” Deschamps commented.

“We are happy with our performance today, it was close to what we have been doing in practice,” Camille Kovalev noted. “Tomorrow (in the Free Skating) we just want to relax and take pleasure. We feel no pressure,” she added.

Skating to “Danse Macabre”, Safina/Berulava produced a triple twist, side by side triple Salchow and a level-four spin, but Safina missed the throw triple loop. The reigning ISU World Junior Champions earned 61.55 points.

“Personally, I am more pleased than not pleased with our performance today because nothing really worked in practice for me. We have still a lot of work ahead of us and I think I’ve done the maximum of what I can do at the moment,” Safina shared.
