ISU World Junior bronze medalists Nadiia Bashynska/Peter Beaumont of Canada skated confidently into the lead in the Rhythm Dance as the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final continued in Torino on Friday. They lead Great Britain’s Phebe Bekker/James Hernandez by three points. Hannah Lim/Ye Quan of Korea sit third.

Performing to the Spanish Waltz “Espana” and the “Tango Grande”, Bashynska/Beaumont brought a ballroom feel to their routine. They earned a level four for the rotational lift and his twizzles, and a level three for her twizzles and the first Argentine Tango pattern dance sequence merited a level three for an overall score of 67.74 points.
“I’m so excited (for the Free Dance), it’s the most detailed and the most heart-felt program we’ve ever done in our lives so I think we’re just excited to skate it again and perform it for the audience,” Bashynska said.
Bekker/Hernandez delivered a strong performance to the Flamenco pieces “Duel” and “Concerto de Espana” and the “Tango de Besame” to score 64.58 points. The British Junior Champions collected a level four for the lift and the second Argentine Tango pattern as well as a level three and four for the twizzles.

“It was a really surreal moment, walking down the steps,” said Hernandez. “We’ve never walked into an area with ambient lighting before. It felt very special. We felt ready going into the warm-up. We had no doubts in our minds where there have been before this season going into this program.”
Lim/Quan’s Milonga “Primavera Portena” included a level-four rotational lift. The twizzles garnered a level three and four and the Argentine Tango a level one and two. The Junior Grand Prix Courchevel Champions netted 64.21 points and are close to fulfilling their goal at this event.

“I feel like ‘wow’,” Lim said. “I just don’t remember because I’m so in the performance but after that I feel like ‘This was really fun’. We came in with (the goal of) getting top three.”
Top seeds Katerina Mrazkova/Daniel Mrazek (CZE) finished fourth as they both fell in the first Argentine Tango sequence, but remained close to the podium on 64.08 points. Darya Grimm/Michail Savitskiy (GER) placed fifth on 62.21 followed by Celina Fradji/Jean-Hans Fourneaux (FRA, 59.23 points).

The ISU Junior Grand Prix started in August with the event in Courchevel (FRA) and continued in September and October in Ostrava (CZE), Riga (LAT), Gdansk (POL) and Egna-Neumarkt (ITA). The event in Yerevan (ARM) had to be cancelled due to safety concerns and the entries were allocated to the three remaining events. Gdansk hosted two events, taking over for Grenoble (FRA) that returned one JGP.

Selection Criteria
A total of 367 young Skaters/Couples from over 50 ISU Members competed in this year’s Series. Each ISU Member is entitled to enter competitors for the Series while the number of their entries depends on the result of the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022.
Following the IOC recommendation and in order to protect the integrity of ice skating competitions and for the safety of all the participants of international ice skating competitions, the ISU Council based on Article 17.1.q)i) of the ISU Constitution, agreed that with immediate effect and until further notice, no Skaters belonging to the ISU Members in Russia (Russian Skating Union and the Figure Skating Federation of Russia) and Belarus (Skating Union of Belarus) shall be invited or allowed to participate in International ice skating competitions including ISU Championships and other ISU Events. The same applies to Officials listed in the respective ISU Communications and/or Regulations under Russia and Belarus (see ISU Communication 2469).
