The 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships continued in London, ON, Canada, with the Pairs Free Skating and the Men Free Skating.

Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov (RUS) skate to gold

Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov of Russia skated to the gold medal in the Pairs event. Germany's Aliona Savchenko/Robin Szolkowy took the silver medal and Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford of Canada claimed the bronze.

Skating to Violin Muse by Ikuko Kawai, Volosozhar/Trankov produced a triple twist, a side by side triple Salchow and triple toe-double toe combination as well as a throw triple loop and Salchow. The European Champions picked up a level four for seven elements. En route to their first world title, they set a new highest score in the Free Skating with 149.87 points and new highest total score at 225.71 points. Volosozhar stated that After we finished our program, I said to Maxim, probably we are World Champions, these were the first words. We did all our elements, the throws, everything with a plus. This was the result of our hard work. Right now I am more emotional about our skate than about winning. But obviously we are thrilled, after finishing second twice we wanted to move up.

Savchenko/Szolkowy opened their routine to Flamenco Bolero with a throw triple flip and completed a triple twist, level-four lifts and a throw triple Axel at the very end of the program. However, Savchenko doubled the side-by-side jumps while he fell on a triple Salchow. The four-time World Champions scored 132.09 points and moved up from third to second at 205.56 points overall to win their seventh consecutive medal at the ISU World Championships. After being third after the short, we wanted to attack, for sure. We did the throw triple Axel, that was the highlight of our performance today. It worked perfectly, well it wasn't clean, but for it being at the very end of the program it was great. It is a nice ending of a tough season for us. It is another step towards Sochi, Szolkowy commented. I am angry at myself. At the beginning I was somehow confused. Maybe I saved energy for the throw triple Axel. But now I know what to do, Savchenko explained.

Duhamel/Radford's routine to the Angel movie soundtrack featured a triple twist, a side by side triple Lutz, throw triple loop and Salchow, but all lifts were graded a level two. The Canadian Champions scored a new personal best with 130.95 points and slipped to third at 204.56 points overall. It's the most surreal, unbelievable moment in our lives. It's something very special and soothing we'll have forever. For it to happen at home in Canada it topped it all off. Three years ago, when I came here to qualify for the Olympics I left with a bronze medal (at Nationals), I didn't qualify for the Olympics. It was the lowest point in my life, rock bottom. It's three years later and this is the happiest bronze medal I've ever had in my life, Duhamel

shared. We started off very well. I think we stayed very calm and we took everything one thing at a time, we didn't get ahead of ourselves. I think that what kept it together for us at the end. I felt a little tired near the end, but the energy in the building really helped us to push through the end, Radford added.

Kirsten Moore-Towers/Dylan Moscovitch (CAN) moved up from fifth to fourth at 199.50 points with a strong performance. Two-time World Champions Qing Pang/Jian Tong (CHN) finished fifth at 194.64 points while Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov (RUS) came sixth (191.59 points).

Patrick Chan (CAN) captures gold medal

Patrick Chan of Canada captured the gold medal. Denis Ten of Kazakhstan won silver, the first ISU Championships Figure Skating medal for his country and Javier Fernandez rose from seventh to earn the bronze. It was the first medal for Spain at an ISU Figure Skating World Championship.

Chan's program to La Boheme was highlighted by a quad-triple toe combination, another quadruple toeloop and difficult spins and footwork, but he fell on a triple Lutz and underrotated triple Axel. Chan was ranked second in the Free Skating with 169.41 points but overall held on to first place at 267.78 points to win his third consecutive World title. It was good at beginning, I did two beautiful quads. The Lutz scared me, I lost momentum, the 22-year-old said. I feel good, will enjoy this day, week. It's where I want to be heading into Sochi. I think the audience saved me. It is a two-program competition. I am thankful for that beautiful short program. Maybe I'm saving the long for the Olympics, he added.

Performing to The Artist soundtrack, Ten reeled off a quadruple toeloop, a triple Axel-triple toeloop, another triple Axel as well as three more triples and two level-four spins. The skater from Kazakhstan earned a personal best score of 174.92 points and was ranked first in the Free Skating. Overall he racked up 266.48 points and remained in second place to win a historical medal for Kazakhstan. My dream has come true and I still can't believe it all happened. I had rough skates this season; I had truly a hard time. When I did the quad I felt everything is going like my plan, Ten commented.

Fernandez landed a quadruple toeloop, quadruple Salchow and five triples including an Axel in his Charlie Chaplin routine. He picked up 168.30 points and moved up to third at 249.06 points. Today's program was a little bit of everything. I had a great start, but also made some mistakes; I had some good jumps and some bad jumps as well. I am happy this season is done, it was a great season for me, I won many medals. It's great to see how the work that you put into it actually starts to work. Now we have to get ready for next year and stop doing those little mistakes, the European Champion explained.

2012 World bronze medalist Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) pulled up from ninth to fourth with a strong Free Skating at 244.99 points. Four Continents Champion Kevin Reynolds (CAN) slipped from third to fifth as he underrotated three jumps (239.98 points). Grand Prix Final Champion Daisuke Takahashi (JPN) finished in sixth place (239.03 points).
