Jens van ‘t Wout (NED) stands out on the Short Track ice. Not only because of the gold tooth he likes to show after skating well, but also because of his bravado and flair. Van ‘t Wout is one of Netherlands’ rising stars as the Dutch team aims to continue their climb to the very top of the sport. 

Korean Ice Dancers Hannah Lim/Ye Quan claimed a historic first ISU Junior Grand Prix title in the discipline for their country, as the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2022/23 kicked off with the first event in Courchevel (FRA). Hana Yoshida and Shunsuke Nakamura continued Japan’s success in Single Skating after the country had sat out the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in the past season.

The next generation of talented young Figure Skaters takes the stage as the Juniors traditionally start the season with the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2022/23.

Once the Skater and his team have chosen the idea for the program and the music, the work with the choreographer starts. A Figure Skating program is more than just a sequence of elements such as jumps and spins. Who wants to be successful needs a high quality program and has to combine the technical and artistic aspects of the sport.

Figure Skating is one of the few sports where music is a very important part of the performance. Therefore, finding the right music, arranging and designing it in a way that suits the athlete and the program perfectly is not always an easy task. The music selection is usually the first step in the process of making a new program.

Most Speed Skaters start the off-season with a well-deserved holiday, but they pick-up training by the end of April usually. Without ice, the skater’s routine mainly comprises cycling, inline-skating, dry-land exercises and the gym. And of course, there is summer ice too.

The ISU was informed by the Fédération Française des Sports de Glace (FFSG) of the cancellation of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event that was scheduled to take place from September 28 to October 1, 2022 in Grenoble (FRA). The Council decided to reallocate the event to Gdansk (POL) following a spontaneous application.

In summer, you can enjoy many photos of Figure Skaters relaxing on the beach or having fun in ice shows, but in fact they are working a lot and very hard. It is not a secret that the foundation for success during the season is laid during the summer. And so the Skaters are taking part in training camps in mountain areas, in special camps for working on jumps or on skating skills, visiting other coaches and trying to learn something new.

Brandon Kim and Andrew Heo look like the future of US Short Track Speed Skating: both in their early 20s, the two Skaters with Korean heritage made a real impact last season. When it comes to summer training however, they are taking very different approaches.

Tennis has the holy grass of Wimbledon, Judo has the Budokan in Tokyo and Speed Skating has Thialf in Heerenveen (NED). The stadium is famous for the large crowds, cheering for every single rider at big championships, but it’s also one of the most high-tech Speed Skating facilities around the world. 

Top Figure Skaters of the world including reigning World Champions Shoma Uno (JPN), Kaori Sakamoto (JPN) and Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier (USA) as well as Olympic, World and European medalists are getting ready to compete in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2022/23 in the post-Olympic season when accomplished Skaters meet the up and coming next generation.

Further to the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China event, the International Skating Union (ISU) is pleased to announce that the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - MK John Wilson Trophy has been allotted to Sheffield (GBR) and will be hosted as planned on November 11-13, 2022.

Mass Start Olympic Champion Bart Swings (BEL) has claimed five medals in Roller Speed Skating at the World Games 2022 in Birmingham (USA), four of them gold. He also became the first athlete to win a gold medal at the World Games and the Olympic Winter Games in the same year.
