Nico Ihle delighted the home crowd winning the Men’s 500m on Day 1 of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup at the Sportforum in Berlin. Nao Kodaira (JPN) took her fifth World Cup win in the 500m, America’s Heather Bergsma took her fourth 1000m gold of the season, and Kjeld Nuis (NED) won the Men’s 1500m.

The ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2017 kicked off today in Innsbruck, Austria with the qualification heats for the following three individual distances: Ladies and Men 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m. There were also qualification heats for the 3000 m relay distances. New World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Champions will be crowned this year as the defending champions Chunyu Qu and Ziwei Ren, both from China, are no longer eligible to compete at the Junior level.

The ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2017 concluded today with the crowning of this year’s individual and team champions. Arianna Fontana (ITA) was crowned the Lady European Short Track Speed Skating Champion for 2017, winning the title for a sixth time in her career. This was the second title for Fontana on home soil in Torino, Italy. Meanwhile, Semen Elistratov (RUS) successfully defended his title, becoming the European Short Track Speed Skating Champion for 2017: this was his second title in his career. In the team events, the Ladies European Short Track Speed Skating Relay Champions for 2017 are Italy while the Netherlands defended their title, becoming the European Short Track Speed Skating Relay Champions for 2017.

After spending yesterday racing through qualifying heats in all individual distances, Europe’s best short track speed skaters took the ice today in Torino (ITA) for the Ladies and Men 1500 m and 500 m finals. Arianna Fontana (ITA) and Semen Elistratov (RUS) concluded the day leading their respective European Championship classification.

The 2017 ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships kicked off today in Torino, Italy with the qualification heats for the following three individual distances: Ladies and Men 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m. There were also qualification heats for the relay distances. These championships are held at the Palavela rink marking a return of short track speed skating to the Olympic venue for the first time since the 2006 Winter Games. The championship contenders in the Men and Ladies competition all managed to get through successfully in today’s qualification heats.
