The 2017 ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships kicked off today in Torino, Italy with the qualification heats for the following three individual distances: Ladies and Men 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m. There were also qualification heats for the relay distances. These championships are held at the Palavela rink marking a return of short track speed skating to the Olympic venue for the first time since the 2006 Winter Games. The championship contenders in the Men and Ladies competition all managed to get through successfully in today’s qualification heats.

The ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships start on Friday January 13, 2017 in Torino (ITA). The European Short Track allround winners will be crowned on Sunday January 15.

Dutchman Kai Verbij is on course to win the inaugural Men’s European Sprint title, but he still faces tough competition. His compatriot Ireen Wüst took a big lead in the Ladies’ allround tournament on Day 1 of the ISU European Speed Skating Championships.

The New Year starts with a new format in Speed Skating from January 6-8. Heerenveen’s Thialf stadium will host the first ever ISU European Speed Skating Championships combining the inaugural European Sprint and traditional European Allround competitions

ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2017 - Gangneung (KOR) Media Accreditations are now open.

The fourth round of the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2016/17 concluded today. A total of nearly 30,000 spectators attended this weekend's World Cup event at the Gangneung Ice Area. Min Jeong Choi (KOR) and Dajing Wu (CHN) win the 500 m events while Elise Christie (GBR) and Charles Hamelin (CAN) claim top spots in 1000 m (2) events. Korea (Ladies) and Hungary (Men) take gold in the Relay events.

The fourth round of the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2016/17 began today at the newly completed Gangneung Ice Area, which will be the home of the short track speed skating events at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Nurbergen Zhumagaziyev (KAZ) wins his first career individual World Cup event while Korea claims gold double in the 1500m on home soil with wins by Suk Hee Shim (Ladies) and Jung Su Lee (Men).

Jorrit Bergsma won the 10,000m, only to see his compatriot Bob de Vries skate a faster time in the B Division on Day 3 of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen.

The ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2016/17 resumed today for the second day of finals in Shanghai, China with the Ladies and Men’s 1000 m, second 500 m and Relay events. Elise Christie (GBR) and Dajing Wu (CHN) repeat wins in the second 500 m.

Ireen Wüst (NED) was back on the top spot of the World Cup podium when she won the 1500m on Day 2 of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen. Kjeld Nuis also won the Men’s 1500m on home soil.

The third round of the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2016/17 began today in Shanghai (CHN) with the following events: Ladies and Men’s 500 m (1) and 1500 m finals and the relay semi-finals.
