After a spectacular start to the season in Asia, the ISU World Cup Speed Skating moves to Europe and Stavanger (NOR) from 1-3 December. The Japanese and Chinese skaters who thrived on home ice in Obihiro and Beijing, hope to continue their winning ways in Norway this weekend. The endurance specialists will look forward to Stavanger with specific interest, because it’s the only World Cup with a 10,000m for men and a 5000m for women instead of the 5000m and 3000m respectively.

Issa Gunji (JPN) led Japan’s impressive medal haul at the first ISU World Cup Speed Skatingin Baselga di Piné, Italy, winning both the men’s 500m and 1000m. Metoděj Jílek (CZE) also seized two individual gold medals in the men’s competition, while Hana Noake (JPN) dominated the women’s field winning gold, silver and bronze at the outdoor rink in northern Italy.

China and Republic of Korea dominated proceedings at the first-ever ISU Junior World Cup Short Track Speed Skating at the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden (NED). The two Short Track powerhouses won four golds each in the inaugural competition for the world’s best young racers.

Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) celebrated a close win over teammate and two-time World Champion Shoma Uno as competition wrapped up at the NHK Trophy Saturday in Osaka (JPN). The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the  ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and is the final opportunity to get into the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) December 7-10.

Minerva Fabienne Hase/Nikita Volodin (GER) shone again to win gold as the NHK Trophy continued in Osaka (JPN) Saturday with the Pairs Free Skating. The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the  ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and is the final opportunity to get into the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) December 7-10.

Ava Marie Ziegler (USA) surged to the top to strike gold at the NHK Trophy in Osaka (JPN) Saturday. The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and is the final opportunity to get into the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) December 7-10. 

ISU European silver medalists Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson edged out ISU European Champions Charlène Guignard/Marco Fabbri (ITA) for gold as the NHK Trophy continued in Osaka (JPN) with the Free Dance on Saturday. The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and provides the last chance to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) December 7-10. 

The first-ever ISU Junior World Cup Short Track Speed Skating will take place at the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden (NED) from November 25-26. This exciting new event is one of two Junior World Cup competitions, with a repeat fixture at the same venue the following weekend, December 2-3.

The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the  ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and provides the last chance to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) December 7-10.  

With the international senior season well under way after the first two ISU World Cup Speed Skating events in Asia, the ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating starts this weekend in Baselga de Piné, Italy. The first two of the three-legged Series are qualifying events for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which will be held at the 2018 Gangneung Olympic Oval in Gangwon (KOR) on January 19–February 1, 2024. 

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series continues this week with the NHK Trophy in Osaka (JPN). The NHK Trophy is the sixth and concluding event of the series and thus offers the last chance to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) from December 7-10. World Champion Shoma Uno (JPN), World Ice Dance silver medalists Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri (ITA) and other top skaters are aiming for a ticket to Beijing. 

Despite the return of Olympic champion Irene Schouten (NED), Ragne Wiklund (NOR, pictured) took gold in the 3000m at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating in Beijing on Sunday. In the 500m, Erin Jackson (USA) added a second gold of the weekend to make it a three-race winning streak, before an improvised Dutch squad completed the women’s competition with victory in the Team Sprint.
