“I can’t believe it,” Jordan Stolz (USA) said. Nobody could. The 19-year-old American took .32 seconds off the world record to win the first of two 1000m races at the ISU World Cup at the fast Utah Olympic Oval on Friday. The gap between Stolz and the rest of the field was 1.60 seconds, with Ning Zhongyan (CHN) second and David Bosa (ITA) third. Chung Jae Won (KOR) brought the first day of the World Cup to a close by winning gold in the Mass Start, beating Bart Swings (BEL) and Bart Hoolwerf (NED) to the line in the final sprint.

It was a long time coming, but Joy Beune (NED) finally won her first individual World Cup gold on Friday in Salt Lake City, USA. The four-time 2018 World Junior Champion left Olympic gold medallist Irene Schouten (NED) 1.34 seconds behind in the 3000m, while Valérie Maltais (CAN) seized bronze to take her first World Cup podium in a classic distance.

Chung Jae Won (KOR) brought the championships to a conclusion by retaining his Mass Start title with a powerful sprint to the line.

After winning the Team Pursuit title with Valérie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann, Blondin claimed the Mass Start in dominant fashion. In between, Japan's Miho Takagi added the 1000m title to the 1500m crown she won on Friday.

Casey Dawson (USA) beat Graeme Fish (CAN) by .02 seconds to win the longest distance, with Ted-Jan Bloemen (CAN) third.
