BEIJING28: One City. Four World Championships. A Skating Awards Ceremony. One Global Celebration.
10 Jun 2026
The International Skating Union (ISU) today unveiled BEIJING28, a groundbreaking new event concept that will bring together four ISU World Championships and the ISU Skating Awards in a single city for the very first time in the organization’s history.
Taking place in Beijing, China, BEIJING28 will unite the world's best athletes in Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Short Track, and Synchronized Skating for an unprecedented celebration of excellence and sporting achievement. For the first time, the pinnacle events of all ISU disciplines will share one stage, creating a truly global showcase of skating at its very best.
More than a sporting event, BEIJING28 will be designed as the world's largest skating cultural moment - a city-wide festival extending far beyond the competition arenas and into the heart of the world’s first dual Olympic City.
Building on Beijing's unique Olympic legacy, the event will create a powerful platform for connecting athletes, fans, media, business partners, and local communities in a unique festival atmosphere that blends world-class sport, culture, entertainment, and innovation.
A Bold Vision Becoming Reality
For decades, ISU Members have shared the ambition of bringing skating's World Championships together. In 2028, that vision becomes reality.
The event will feature:
- ISU Figure Skating World Championships
- ISU Speed Skating World Championships
- ISU Short Track World Championships
- ISU Synchronized Skating World Championships (Synchro 16 & 9)
- ISU Skating Awards
ISU President Jae Youl Kim states: "BEIJING28 is far more than a new event - it is a bold vision for the future of skating. For the first time in our history, athletes, fans, broadcasters, partners, and stakeholders from every skating discipline will come together on one stage, creating a unique celebration that connects cultures, generations, and audiences from around the world. Working hand in hand with Beijing and China Winter Sports, we will showcase the very best of our sport while creating new opportunities for fan engagement, storytelling, commercial partnerships and collaborations culminating in an unforgettable experience both inside and outside of the venues.”
Beijing: Where Olympic Legacy Meets the Future
Twenty years after welcoming the world for the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, and six years after becoming the world's first and only Dual Olympic City through the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, the Chinese capital is ready to write another historic chapter.
BEIJING28 will be staged across several venues, including the three iconic Olympic arenas:
- National Indoor Stadium
- Capital Indoor Stadium
- National Speed Skating Oval
Together, these world-class facilities provide an exceptional cutting-edge platform for competition while highlighting the enduring legacy of Beijing's Olympic investments and commitment to the development of winter sports.
A Festival for the City
BEIJING28 has been designed as an immersive experience that transcends competition.
Fans can expect a vibrant city-wide celebration featuring:
- Public viewing areas
- Fan zones
- Cultural activations
- Athlete appearances
- Interactive digital experiences
- Entertainment and celebration events
The objective is simple: bring skating sports into the lives of people and create lasting memories for athletes, fans, tourists, and residents alike.
Unity for New Opportunities
By bringing all skating disciplines together in one destination, athletes will compete alongside peers from across the skating family, while fans will have the unique opportunity to experience the full spectrum of international skating in a single setting.
The innovative format will also unlock new opportunities for broadcasters, sponsors, and partners through richer storytelling, cross-discipline activations, and enhanced audience engagement, supporting the ISU Vision 2030’s ambitions.
Building Momentum on the Road to French Alps 2030
Positioned between Milano Cortina 2026 and French Alps 2030, BEIJING28 will serve as the most significant international skating event of the Olympic cycle. By bringing together the world's best skaters in one city and one global celebration, the event will help build excitement and momentum on the road to the next Olympic Winter Games.
Stay tuned for more information on competition schedules, ticketing, fan experiences, and event programming to be announced in the lead-up to BEIJING28.
