ISU launches official LINE account to strengthen engagement with Japanese audiences

29 Jan 2026

The International Skating Union (ISU) is excited to announce the launch of its official account on LINE, Japan’s leading messaging and social media platform. As part of the ISU’s growing localized content strategy supporting ISU Vision 2030, this new presence on LINE will optimize engagement with its existing Japanese fanbase, while expanding the reach of Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Short Track, and Synchronized Skating to new Japanese-speaking audiences worldwide.

This initiative supports ISU’s continued expansion across multiple digital channels worldwide. To deliver more localized and culturally relevant content, the ISU already operates tailored platforms in Korea (via Naver) and in China (via Weibo, WeChat, Douyin, RedNote and Bilibili), allowing fans in key markets to access skating content in the formats and languages they use every day. Complementing this global diversification, the ISU launched an all-new website ecosystem that brings together a fan-centric “Home of Skating” with a modernized institutional hub, “Inside ISU.” The dual-platform structure provides tailored multimedia content across all Skating disciplines and ISU-related topics.

Adopting LINE represents a natural next step in this expansion. As of the end of June 2025, LINE counts approximately 99.0 million monthly active users, reaching nearly 80 percent of the country’s population. Its ubiquitous presence in daily life, spanning messaging, news, entertainment and commerce, makes LINE an ideal platform for the ISU to deliver official, timely and accessible skating content to a broad and diverse Japanese audience. By engaging fans where they already communicate, the ISU seeks to foster stronger community ties, raise awareness of all Skating disciplines, and attract new followers, including younger and casual sports fans.

Through the new ISU LINE account, followers can expect:

  • Exclusive news and updates on upcoming competitions across Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Short Track and Synchronized Skating
  • Live event coverage, real-time results, and behind-the-scenes content
  • Profiles of skaters and stories to deepen fan connection
  • Announcements and information relevant to Japanese fans, including localized content, promotions, and opportunities to participate in the ISU community

ISU Chief of Commercial and Marketing, Jiao Li, stated: “The ISU continues to invest in serving its existing fans while actively engaging new ones through localized content and dedicated digital resources that ensure relevance in every market. Building on its strong digital performance in North Asia - particularly in China, Korea and Japan - the ISU is confident that establishing a presence on LINE will further strengthen engagement with Japanese fans and partners, grow the next generation of skating supporters, and amplify the visibility of all skating disciplines across Japan”.
