ISU statement on CAS ruling in the case of Mr. Raimo Reinsalu

12 Feb 2026

The ISU welcomes the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to maintain the provisional suspension of Mr. Raimo Reinsalu (Estonia) from

all ISU activities and events including the skating events at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, until a final decision has been reached by the ISU Disciplinary Committee.

As part of ISU Vision 2030, the organization’s strategic plan, several significant improvements have been made to the ISU’s approach to safeguarding and athlete welfare. These include strengthened reporting mechanisms, the appointment of a Head of Athlete Welfare and a Safeguarding Officer, improvements in the way cases are managed, and changes to regulatory frameworks.

In 2025, the first ever ISU Extraordinary Congress approved the creation of the Skating Integrity Unit to strengthen independent case management, investigation and prosecution of safeguarding cases.

The ISU is firmly committed to safeguarding skaters and all members of the skating community. Robust mechanisms are in place to ensure that any concerns are addressed with the utmost seriousness, fairness, and respect for due process.

Anyone who has experienced or witnessed harassment or abuse is encouraged to report it to the ISU. Reports will be handled in the strictest confidence. They can be submitted in a number of ways and details can be found here: https://www.isu.org/reporting-abuse/

As this is an ongoing case, no further comment will be made until a final decision is rendered.
