The International Skating Union (ISU) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Stanislav Židek, long-time President of the Czech Figure Skating Association, on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with a serious illness.
Mr. Židek dedicated his life to the development of figure skating at national and international levels. As a young athlete, he became Czech junior champion, demonstrating both talent and passion for the sport. Later, as a coach, he guided the national teams of the Czech Republic and Denmark, nurturing generations of skaters and sharing his extensive knowledge and experience.
As an official, Mr. Židek made an equally significant contribution. He served with distinction as President of the Organizing Committee of the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2017 in Ostrava. More recently, he had been preparing in the same capacity for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2026, set to take place in Prague from 24-29 March 2026. It is a source of great sadness that he will not be there to see the fruition of his dedicated work on this important event.
Mr. Židek’s leadership, vision, and commitment to figure skating earned him deep respect and admiration across the skating community. His contributions helped shape the growth and success of Czech figure skating, leaving a legacy that will endure for many years to come.
On behalf of the ISU Council, its Members and the global skating family, we extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Židek’s family, friends and colleagues.
The ISU pays tribute to Stanislav Židek’s lifetime of service to figure skating and will remember him with profound respect and gratitude.
