When Joel Dufter (GER) crashed in the 500m at ISU World Cup Speed Skating races in Heerenveen in January, he put the track markers back in place before getting up again. “I crashed in the corner and it was a mess. Suzanne Schulting (NED) got her Dordrecht 2021 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships off to the perfect start on Saturday, winning both 1500m and 500m gold, under emotional circumstances. The results put her in prime position to lift her second overall title on Sunday.

The five-week Speed Skating hub came to an end on February 14, 2021 in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. Over 32 hours of competition were broadcasted across four unique and exciting events including the ISU European Speed Skating Championships, two World Cups and the ISU World Speed Skating Championships. During the course of the 38-day Competition Bubble, over 2000 PCR tests were done and the most impressive number was 0, the number of positive COVID-19 infections identified in the Competition Bubble.

The 2021 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships take place in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, from Friday, March 5 to Sunday, March 7. Following the withdrawal of the powerhouse Republic of Korea and China teams, the Ladies’ competition will be seen by the most recent overall ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Champion, the Netherlands’ Suzanne Schulting, as a golden opportunity to claim a second title.
