Things could not be clearer – or indeed more exciting – after two of the six 2023/24 ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating rounds: no one has any idea who will lift the coveted Crystal Globes, presented by Dunamu, come the end of the season. The home crowd will be hoping the Liu brothers – accompanied by the likes of Lin Xiaojun, Sun Long and returning Olympic Champion Ren Ziwei – will lead the China men’s team to glory at the latest ISU World Cup in Beijing, 8-10 December.

Shaolin and Shaoang Liu (CHN) made history skating for Hungary – they have a Chinese father and a Hungarian mother – winning the nation’s first-ever Olympic Winter Games gold medal at PyeongChang 2018, as part of the victorious relay team.

The second round of ISU Junior World Cup Short Track Speed Skating took place at the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, this weekend. Republic of Korea once again asserted its supremacy at this level of skating, winning six of the eight individual golds up for grabs.

On December 3, 2023, the International Skating Union (ISU) will celebrate Ice Skating sports all around the world by launching the second edition of the World Ice Skating Day (WISD). To date, 50 countries on all continents have confirmed their participation in this initiative and will organize a variety of events hand in hand with local skating clubs, rinks and national skating federations in a spirit of inclusion and joy.

The first-ever ISU Junior World Cup Short Track Speed Skating will take place at the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden (NED) from November 25-26. This exciting new event is one of two Junior World Cup competitions, with a repeat fixture at the same venue the following weekend, December 2-3.

The eagerly awaited second edition of the World Ice Skating Day (WISD) is set to dazzle on December 3, 2023. This event promises a spectacular array of global celebrations, showcasing ice skating sports in the most entertaining, imaginative, and inclusive ways. The anticipation is building as the picturesque town of Lake Placid (USA) prepares to host the crown jewel of the WISD - the World Ice Skating Day 2023 “Main Event”. This exciting event will be held at the iconic Olympic Center in Lake Placid, organized by the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) in collaboration with the International Skating Union (ISU) and supported by US Figure Skating and US Speed Skating.

It has been a fascinating contest between Canada and Republic of Korea at the ISU Four Continents Short Track Championships 2024 and the two nations went at it again in Laval on Sunday. Up-and-coming racer William Dandjinou (CAN), who honed his craft on this rink as a teenager, won the 1000m, dropping the current 1000m World Champion and ISU Crystal Globe holder Park Ji Won (KOR) into second place. 

There’s a strong case to be made that Kristen Santos-Griswold (USA) is the best Short Track speed skater in the world right now. The American has been backing up her boundless potential with results to match, and on Sunday she added the 1000m gold at the ISU Four Continents Short Track Championships 2024 to the 500m and 1500m she seized on Saturday.

The ISU Four Continents Short Track Championships have long been a duel between the men of Canada and the Republic of Korea, and the battle continued at the third edition of the competition with two of the world's best skaters going head-to-head.

The ISU Four Continents Short Track Championships 2024 got underway in Laval, Canada on Saturday, with Kristen Santos-Griswold (USA) making history for her country by winning both the 1500m and 500m — becoming the first non-Canadian or Korean athlete to win an individual gold medal at a Four Continents meet.

After consecutive weekends of ISU World Cup racing in Montreal, the Short Track roadshow moves to nearby Laval for the ISU Four Continents Championships on 4-5 November.

During the ISU World Cup Short Track in Montreal on Sunday 29 October 2023 the Final A race of the Women’s 3000 meters Relay witnessed a dramatic turn of events. Skaters from all four competing teams experienced falls in the race's final stages, which extends over 27 laps (each lap is normally concluded in about 9 seconds).

Republic of Korea continued their tremendous start to the men’s ISU Short Track World Cup season on Sunday, with Kim Gun Woo (KOR) winning a chaotic 1500m final to put himself at the top of the overall points standing. Promising young Dutch skater Jens van ‘t Wout (NED), meanwhile, put a frustrating string of races at the Maurice-Richard Arena, Montreal, behind him to bag an impressive gold in the 1000m.

A superb fortnight of ISU Short Track World Cup racing came to a conclusion at the Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal on Sunday with new champions emerging and a fierce battle developing for ownership of the coveted ISU Crystal Globe.
