The second stop of the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2014/15 resumed today in Montreal (CAN) with the Ladies and Men’s 500 m and 1500 m events.

Kexin FAN (CHN) and Dajing Wu (CHN) win the first 500 m of the weekend
Kexin Fan of China won her second 500 m event of the season, and takes the lead in the World Cup classification for the distance. Marianne St-Gelais of Canada earned the second place and Ji-Soo Jeon (KOR) settled for third. St-Gelais and Jeon are also in second and third in the World Cup 500 m classification.

On the Men’s side, Dajing Wu of China claimed the win in the 500 m event, which puts him in first place in the World Cup classification for the distance. Dmitry Migunov (RUS) earned the second place while Yoon-Gy Kwak (KOR) finished third. There were five skaters in the race, with Shaolin Sandor Liu (HUN) settling for fourth place and Vladimir Grigorev (RUS) finished in fifth.

Four medals for Korea in the 1500 m
Minjeong Choi of Korea won the Ladies’ 1500 m while her teammate Suk Hee Shim claimed third place. Arianna Fontana of Italy split the Korean skaters, taking second place. Suk Hee Shim leads the World Cup classification in the 1500 m ahead of Fontana. Yutong Han (CHN) sits in third place in the classification, with a fourth place finish today.

On the Men’s side, Korea claimed the top two podium spots in the Men’s 1500 m: Se Yeong Park finished first and Da Woon Sin earned second place. Sjinkie Knegt of the Netherlands earned third place. Da Woon Sin leads the World Cup classification for the distance.

Racing resumes tomorrow with the Ladies and Men 1000 m and the second 500 m events. The teams advancing in Ladies 3000m Relay final are Korea, Russia, Canada and Italy; in the Men’s 5000m Relay, Korea, Hungary, Great Britain and Netherlands will be competing in the final.
