The ISU was recently informed by the Chinese Skating Association (CSA), who originally planned to organize two World Cup Short Track Competitions as part of the ISU World Cup Short Track series on December 9-11, 2022, and December 16-18, 2022, in Beijing, that due to pandemic related implications, they are unable to hold these events during the season 2022/23. The ISU appreciates the CSA efforts to maintain the events but also understands the difficult circumstances justifying the decision to cancel the events in China.

In the meantime, the discussion for the hosting of the ISU World Cup Short Track Competition on February 3-5, 2023, did not reach a positive outcome.

Based on the above, the ISU Council approved the following events and dates:

October 28-30, 2022                  World Cup 1                                        Montreal, CAN

November 4-6, 2022                  World Cup 2                                        Salt Lake City, USA

December 9-11, 2022                World Cup 3                                        Open for application

December 16-18, 2022              World Cup 4                                        Open for application

February 3-5, 2023                    World Cup 5                                        Open for application

February 10-12, 2023                World Cup 6                                        Dordrecht, NED

In addition, US Speed Skating confirmed its availability to move the dates of the ISU Four Continents Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City to November 11-13, 2022 (instead of January 13-15, 2023), in order to host this Event the weekend following World Cup 2.

The ISU Council therefore invites ISU Members interested in hosting either the ISU World Cup Short Track Competition scheduled for December 9-11, or the ISU World Cup Short Track Competition scheduled for December 16-18, 2022 or the ISU World Cup Short Track Competition scheduled for February 3-5, 2023, to contact the ISU Sports Director Speed Skating, Mr. Fabrice Prahin (prahin@isu.ch), in order to obtain the necessary details enabling them to submit an application to the ISU. The deadline for expressing such interest has been set to June 15, 2022.
