Sven Kramer (NED) anticipated on a record extending eighth world allround title, when he took a firm lead in the classification after Day 1 of the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Berlin. The Czech lady edged out Wüst in an exciting 3000m and leads overnight with a 0.03 margin in Sunday’s 1500m over her Dutch arch rival.

Berlin will host the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships for the third time in history. Sven Kramer leads the Dutch quest to equal Norway’s record total of 36 World Allround titles in the Men’s tournament at Sportforum Hohenschönhausen. Martina Sábliková (CZE) and Ireen Wüst (NED) will probably reignite their battle for the ladies’ crown after Wüst’s absence on the international stage in the first half of the World Cup season. Kramer and Sáblíková are the defending Champions.

Brittany Bowe (USA) and Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) successfully defended their World Sprint titles at the 47th World Sprint Championships in Seoul. After a challenging first day they both made their mark with a superb 500m on the final day of the tournament.

54 athletes from 20 countries competed in the Speed Skating competitions between February 13 and 19, 2016. Seven medal events including the Ladies and Men 500m, 1500m, Mixed NOC Team Sprint and Ladies and Men Mass Start took place in the iconic Olympic Hall Viking Ship in Hamar.

Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) managed to shrug off his initial nerves when he retained his 500m title after a superb second run in 34.42. Jorien ter Mors (NED) took the Ladies’ 1500m title on the final day of the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 in Kolomna. In the conclusive Mass Start races Seung-Hoon Lee (KOR) took the Men’s and Ivanie Blondin (CAN) the Ladies’ title.

Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) crushed the 1000m track record to become the second Russian male speed skater winning the 1000m world title after Sergey Klevchenya in 1996. The enthusiastic Russian crowd also cheered for world champions Sven Kramer (NED) in the Men’s 5000m, Sang-Hwa Lee (KOR) in the Ladies’ 500m, and the Dutch ladies in the Team Pursuit at the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 in Kolomna on Saturday.

Denis Yuskov retained his crown in the Race of Kings. The Russian took 1500m gold on home ice and became the first male speed skater to win three consecutive world titles in the 1500m. It was a spectacular second day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 in Kolomna, with 1000m gold for Jorien ter Mors (NED), Martina Sáblíková (CZE) taking a record extending eighth 5000m title and the Dutch men winning Team Pursuit gold.

Sven Kramer (NED) took his fourth world title in the 10,000m on the first day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 in Kolomna. Ted-Jan Bloemen (CAN) took silver to grab Canada’s first medal in the longest distance for men. Martina Sáblíková (CZE) edged out Ireen Wüst (NED) by 0.08 seconds to take the Ladies 3,000m gold.

The ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 will be held at the Kometa Stadium in Kolomna from February 11 to 14. The tournament kicks off with the Men’s 10,000m and the Ladies’ 3000m on Thursday.

Brittany Bowe (USA) secured the 1000m World Cup and took the track record from absent Jorien Ter Mors and holds the fastest time in Norway. Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won both the 500m and the 1000m again while Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the 3000m and is certain of winning the World Cup.

After forty victories in long distances and Mass Start events, Martina Sáblíková (CZE) took her 41st World Cup victory in the 1500m. Sven Kramer (NED) proved to be in good shape by winning the 5000m. Jing Yu (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m in a fast time while Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won the 1000m.

Jorien ter Mors (NED) impressed by skating the fastest lowland 1000m ever in Norway. The Chinese ladies and the Russian men dominated the 500m. Hong Zhang (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m and Pavel Kulizhnikov the men’s 500m on the first day of the first ISU World Cup in the Sørmarka Arena in Stavanger. Denis Yuskov skated the fastest 1500m.

Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won both the 1500m and the 5000m to secure her fifth career European Allround title in style on Sunday in Minsk. In the men’s tournament Sven Kramer (NED) won a record extending eighth European title. Bart Swings (BEL) grabbed silver to become the second Belgian after Dutch-born Bart Veldkamp (BEL) in 2001 (silver) to claim a medal at the European Championships.
