The ISU Council reviewed the status of the ongoing skating season 2020/21 considering the worsening world-wide pandemic developments and its impact on organizing and participating ISU Members.

The current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting many parts of the world means that travel restrictions are currently in place and the travel situation is likely to remain complex for the coming months in which the Beijing 2022 Test Events were scheduled. The Beijing 2022 Organising Committee (Beijing 2022), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Winter Sports Federations (IFs), concluded that it was necessary to take an immediate joint decision on a tailored programme based on the needs of each individual IF.  Beijing 2022, the IOC, IPC and the IFs jointly decided to develop an adapted sports testing programme in preparation for the Olympic Winter Games 2022. The adapted programme will replace the organization of a series of international Test Events originally planned for the month of December 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

In April 2005, the Scandinavium in Göteborg was packed with thousands of screaming fans who attended the fifth annual ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. Unlike in 2012 and 2018 when the ISU event would return to Sweden, 2005 was a milestone year: it was the first time Senior teams were required to perform an overhead group lift on the ISU World stage.

Team Paradise (RUS) is the most successful Synchronized Skating team in the past five years. Since the skaters from St. Petersburg claimed their first ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships medal in 2015, they never left the podium, collecting three ISU World titles and two bronze medals. However, even this successful team and its skaters had tough times to overcome and had to get #UpAgain.

In Speed Skating the athletes were lucky enough to finish the 2019/20 season before the entire sporting world came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their Short Track Speed Skating colleagues were less fortunate, as the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2020 in Seoul had to be cancelled. However, it didn't stop top athletes from training, but just in a different way. The “Keep Training!” series launched in April turned out to be a huge success. Some of the best coaches, champions and specialists in sports psychology and mental performance provided free online training for athletes and coaches to prepare. Thousands of viewers followed the live training sessions.

In Celebration of Olympic Day, on June 23, 2020, people from around the world came together to Keep Training. Olympians led the way and among them, were six Olympic Figure Skaters and two Short Track and Speed Skaters. Aljona Savchenko and Deniss Vasiljevs, Ondrej Hotarek and Nicole Della Monica as well as Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi teamed up to provide some great sessions on @ISUFigureSkating. In the Speed Skating and Short Track Speed Skating department, Anice Das and Olivier Jean took on the challenge on @ISUSpeedSkating.
