The ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2017 continued today in Gangneung, Korea, with the Pairs Short Program. The Four Continents Championships 2017 serve as a test event for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Four skaters from Japan, Rika Hongo, Keiji Tanaka, Satoko Miyahara and Yuzuru Hanyu talked to us about their skating career, competitions and their programs for this season amongst other topics before the ISU Four Continents Championships 2017.

The ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2017 will open in Gangneung, Korea, on Thursday. Three reigning Four Continents Champions are back and hope to defend their title.

Javier Fernandez of Spain struck gold and claimed his fifth consecutive title at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships. Russia’s Maxim Kovtun and Mikhail Kolyada picked up the silver and bronze medals.

Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron of France danced off with the gold and their third European title. Italy’s Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte claimed the silver medal and Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev of Russia earned the bronze.

Russia’s Evgenia Medvedeva skated off with the gold medal and took her second consecutive European title. Teammate Anna Pogorilaya claimed the silver medal and five-time European Champion Carolina Koster of Italy returned on to the Championships stage with a bronze medal.

Four-time European Champion Javier Fernandez of Spain skated to a strong lead in the Men’s Short Program. Russia’s Maxim Kovtun came second followed by Alexei Bychenko of Israel.

Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev of Russia danced to a narrow lead in the Short Dance, edging Italy’s Anna Cappelllini/Luca Lanotte by less than a point. Defending Champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron of France are not far behind in third place.

Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov of Russia struck gold in the Pairs final. Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot of Germany repeated as silver medalists and France’s Vanessa James/Morgan Cipres claimed the bronze medal.
