The International Skating Union (ISU) is proud to reaffirm its continuous commitment to the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), a United Nations initiative promoting sport as a vector for peace and social change. Since its launch by the United Nations in 2013, this movement celebrates its 10th anniversary today.

Japan leads the six countries that qualified for the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating (April 13-16) in Tokyo (JPN). The host country that has their new World Champions Kaori Sakamoto, Shoma Uno and Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara on the roster will be joined by the teams from the USA, Canada, Korea, Italy and France. The ISU World Team Trophy is a biennal event.

Shoma Uno (JPN) claimed his second World title to cap off a successful event for Japan, as competition concluded at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships Saturday on Saitama (JPN) with the Men’s Free Skating. 

Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) danced off with the gold medal as the Ice Dance event at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships concluded in Saitama (JPN) Saturday. 

Kaori Sakamoto (JPN) claimed her second World title on home ice at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, becoming the first Japanese Skater to win back-to-back World titles.

Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) danced to the lead in the Rhythm Dance as the ISU World Figure Skating Championships continued in Saitama (JPN) Friday. 

Reigning World Champion Shoma Uno skated to the lead as the ISU World Figure Skating Championships continued Thursday in Saitama (JPN) with the Men’s Short Program. 

History was made in the Pairs event when Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara claimed the first title in this discipline for Japan at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama (JPN) on Thursday. 

Kaori Sakamoto (JPN) stormed to the lead as the ISU World Figure Skating Championships continued with the Women’s Short Program on Wednesday in Saitama.

Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara (JPN) skated to the lead as the ISU World Figure Skating Championships kicked off in Saitama (JPN) with the Pairs Short Program on Wednesday. A total of 181 Skaters/Couples representing 39 ISU Members have been entered for the Championships: 34 Men and 35 Women, 23 Pairs and 33 Ice Dance couples.

The ISU Council decided to allot the organization of the fifth ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event to Espoo (FIN) which will take place on November 17-19, 2023 and the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final will return to Beijing (CHN) on December 7-10, 2023.

Top Skaters from all over the world get ready to shine at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships March 20- 26 in Saitama (JPN). The line-up includes World Champions and Olympic medalists such as Shoma Uno (JPN), Kaori Sakamoto (JPN), Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier (USA) and Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA). A total of 181 Skaters/Couples representing 39 ISU Members have been entered for the Championships: 34 Men and 35 Women, 23 Pairs and 33 Ice Dance couples.

The International Skating Union is up 8 places to a top 10 overall position driven by a rise in fan growth and engagements following the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

International Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and recognize achievements of women in the Ice Skating world. In the following lines, we will focus on four women coaches who are paving the way for future generations.

On December 4, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) together with a variety of partners, national federations and skating clubs from all over the globe celebrated the first ever World Ice Skating Day (WISD). This inaugural edition was a success with events organized in 47 countries and at 170 ice rinks worldwide (read here). To boost a competitive spirit amongst the WISD organizers, the ISU announced the “Best WISD 2022” contest, which aims at rewarding the most successful WISD actions based on a list of specific criteria and targets (read here). Among the 25 nominees shortlisted for the 2022 Awards, the ISU is delighted to announce Indonesia (Federasi Ice Skating Indonesia) as winner of the Best WISD 2022 in the 500+ attending participants category, together with Mexico for the category involving less than 500 participants. The Ice Academy of Montreal (CAN) won the Best #WISDance category, awarding the most creative WISD signature choreography.
