Skate America opens the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series this week in Allen, TX (USA), as per tradition and is the first of six events where international top Figure Skaters will collect points towards the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24in Beijing (CHN) on December 7-10, 2023. Reigning World Champions Madison Chock/Evan Bates(USA) and “quad king” Ilia Malinin(USA) headline the field.

First stop: Skate America, Allen (Texas, USA) (Oct. 20-22, 2023)

Women contenders

Two-time ISU World medalist Loena Hendrickx (BEL) headlines the Women’s field. She will be up against ISU Grand Prix Final silver medalist Isabeau Levito (USA). Hendrickx just shone at the Japan Open while Levito took gold at the ISU Challenger Nebelhorn Trophy. The 2023 ISU Four Continents bronze medalist Mone Chiba (JPN), 2022 Skate America bronze medalist Amber Glenn (USA) and 2023 Shanghai Trophy bronze medalist Niina Petrokina are ready to compete for the podium. Others to watch include Young You (KOR) and Ekaterina Kurakova (POL).

Men contenders

The 2023 ISU World bronze medalist Ilia Malinin (USA) leads the Men and is looking to defend his Skate America title. He comes to Allen with a victory from the ISU Challenger Autumn Classic. The 2019 ISU Grand Prix Finalist Kevin Aymoz (FRA), who finished second to Malinin at Autumn Classic, and Shun Sato (JPN), silver medalist at the ISU Challenger Finlandia Trophy, will challenge Malinin. Other contenders include 2022 ISU European bronze medalist Deniss Vasiljevs (LAT), Nika Egadze (GEO), Stephen Gogolev (CAN) and Andrew Torgashev (USA).

Pairs contenders

The Pairs event looks open after World Pairs Champions Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara (JPN) withdrew due to injury. The 2023 ISU European bronze medalists Annika Hocke/Robert Kunkel (GER) start the season with two bronze medals from their ISU Challenger events, the Lombardia Trophy and the Nebelhorn Trophy. Lia Perreira/Trennt Michaud (CAN) ranked fourth at Nebelhorn Trophy and are aiming for their first ISU Grand Prix medal. Other contenders include Valentina Plazas/Maximiliano Fernandez (USA) and Chelsea Liu/Balasz Nagy (USA).

Ice Dance contenders

ISU World Ice Dance Champions Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) start their season in Texas. While Chock/Bates are the top contenders, the field features many up-and-coming couples who are eager to make their mark. The 2022 ISU Four Continents Champions Caroline Green/Michael Parsons (USA), two-time ISU Grand Prix bronze medalists Marjorie Lajoie/Zachary Lagha (CAN) and Evgeniia Lopareva/Geoffrey Brissaud (FRA) have set their eyes on the podium. The new team of Olivia Smart/Tim Dieck (ESP) enter their first ISU Grand Prix while ISU World Junior Ice Dance Champions Katerina Mrazkova/Daniel Mrazek (CZE) and ISU World Junior silver medalists Hannah Lim/Ye Quan (KOR) are debuting on the ISU Grand Prix at the senior level.

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six events: Skate America, Skate Canada International, Grand Prix de France, Cup of China, the Grand Prix Espoo (FIN) and NHK Trophy (JPN). Skaters collect points to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN).

About ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series started in 1995 (previously known a s the ISU Champions Series) and consists of six invitational international senior events and the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. The top six of the past World Championships are seeded. Competitors collect points in their events towards the qualification for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Only the top six Skaters / Couples in each discipline can qualify for the Final.
