The 11 recognized ISU Centers of Excellence (CoEs) have entered a new cycle. For the first time, the representatives of the Figure Skating CoEs met in person at Ice Lab in Bergamo (ITA) on the occasion of the annual ISU Centers of Excellence workshop held on October 5-7, 2022.

The goal of the workshop was to map out the strategic 4-year plan and determine the actions forward. The ISU Figure Skating CoEs also discussed the cooperation model and services to be made available to the ISU Figure Skating community in the near future.

In view of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games and the role the CoE in Bergamo could play in developing Skaters and Coaches ahead of the Olympics, a press conference was organized. Special guests Giovanni Malagòm President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Benoit Lavoie ISU Vice President Figure Skating, Andrea Gios President of Italian Ice Sports Federation President (FISG) were invited along with other ISU and CoEs representatives from around the world.

Conveniently and strategically located, the CoE in Bergamo is studying ways to share their expertise and facilities on the way to the next Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

About the ISU Centers of Excellence (CoE)

An ISU CoE is an ISU-recognized skating entity that provides an overall environment of high-quality facilities, skating services, coaching and training activities, research and innovation, servicing high-performance and long-term development of Skaters, Coaches, Officials, and experts while engaging with multiple ISU Members.

An ISU CoE may act as an ISU Development Center, hosting or executing ISU development activities when required. The purpose of the CoEs is to share their knowledge, expertise, and good practices. In addition, creativity and innovation are encouraged to fill gaps in the development of skating sports.

The ISU CoE serves as a quality label awarded periodically to selected skating entities. Together the CoEs may form a worldwide training and development network that engages Skaters, Coaches, Officials, and experts in the skating world towards a better fulfillment of their personal and collective development goals.
