Spain’s Javier Fernandez took the first step to defending his European title by winning the Men’s Short Program. Sergei Voronov of Russia sits in second followed by Michal Brezina of the Czech Republic.

The 2015 ISU European Figure Skating Championships will open in Stockholm, Sweden, on January 28. The ISU European Figure Skating Championships return to Stockholm for the second time in history after 1912.

Elise Christie (GBR) was crowned the Lady 2015 ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Champion, while Sjinkie Knegt (NED) took the championship title on the men’s side. In the team events, the relay champions for both the ladies and men’s events were Russia.

After spending Friday racing through qualifying rounds in all individual distances, Europe’s best short track speed skaters took the ice today in Drodretch for the Ladies and Men 1500 m and 500 m finals. On the final day of the ISU World Cup Speed Skating weekend in Heerenveen’s skating arena Thialf, Jan Szymanski (POL) won the 1500m for the second week in a row. The Bergsma home had a good day with a strong solo victory for Jorrit Bergsma (NED) in the mass start and two gold medals for his girlfriend Heather Richardson (USA) on the 500m and the 1500m. Ivanie Blondin (CAN) won the Ladies’ Mass Start and Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) again won the 500m. Seven skaters improved their personal best times. After the final World Cup event in 2014, Ireen Wüst (NED) and Kulizhnikov lead the Grand World Cup.

The ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2014/15 resumed today in Shanghai, China Montreal with the Ladies and Men’s 1000 m, second 500 m and the Relay events.
