It is with great sadness that the International Skating Union (ISU) learned of the passing of the famous Dutch Speed Skating coach Leen Pfrommer,  who died at the age of 87 in Utrecht in the Netherlands. Pfrommer was passionate about Speed Skating and coached several generations of top Dutch skaters, including Ard Schenk (NED), the prolific athlete who won three gold medals at the 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo (JPN).

It was a Short Track season with more than ever at stake, as the ISU announced the introduction of the brand-new Crystal Globe trophies for the season’s best skaters.

As the Helsinki Rockettes prepared for the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships 2023, the team’s dedication and hard work were evident in their daily routine. The team achieved a second place finish at the ISU World Championships in Lake Placid (USA). Their performance was a testament to their hard work, dedication and talent.

Japanese Ice Dance Champions Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi that opened new doors in the sport have retired from competitive skating. The popular dance team announced their decision first on their Instagram account.

Each season has something special about it. A post-Olympic season is not always easy with some top stars retiring or taking a break. The International Skating Union (ISU) has released its competition calendar for the next four seasons of Speed Skating and Short Track Speed Skating, and it promises to be an exciting few years for fans of the sport. From ISU World Championships to ISU World Cups, there will be no shortage of thrilling events to watch.

What. A. Senior debut! Jordan Stolz (USA) had the time of his life at the 2023 ISU World Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen (NED), winning three gold medals in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m.

On September 29, 2022, Solène Mazingue (EST) suffered a fall during training at the Ice Academy of Montreal in Canada. She was rushed to the hospital and after a scan, doctors determined she needed surgery to stop internal bleeding in her head. Solène’s is a story of resilience and inspiration. She didn’t let this accident dictate the outcome of her life. Her partner Marko Gaidajenko (EST) has been with her along the way, showing her unconditional love and support.

Historical. That’s probably how we could best describe the Mixed Relay final at the KB Financial Group ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Seoul (KOR), where the first-ever World Mixed Relay title was awarded.
