With the international senior season well under way after the first two ISU World Cup Speed Skating events in Asia, the ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating starts this weekend in Baselga de Piné, Italy. The first two of the three-legged Series are qualifying events for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which will be held at the 2018 Gangneung Olympic Oval in Gangwon (KOR) on January 19–February 1, 2024.

No more Stolz or Daleman

The absence of the 2022/23 World Junior Champions Jordan Stolz (USA) and Angel Daleman (NED) at this year’s ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating Series leaves the field open for new exciting competitions.

Stolz has already claimed the 500m, 1000m and 1500m senior World titles in 2023, and this season the 19-year-old from Wisconsin is no longer eligible to compete in the junior category.

Daleman, however, still qualifies as a junior, but the 16-year-old has competed in the senior ISU World Cup Short Track series already this season. Although she is not present in Baselga di Piné, Daleman has set her sights on competing in both Short Track and Long Track at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
