It is with regret and sorrow that the ISU learned of the death of 1952 Olympic Champion Jeanette Altwegg (GBR) who passed away on June 18, 2021 at the age of 90.

Living legends Jayne Torvill/Christopher Dean (GBR), Tamara Moskvina (RUS) and Alexei Mishin (RUS) received the ISU Lifetime Achievement Award.

She had struggled with injuries and missed the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in 2019 and 2020, but then she came back strong at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm (SWE) to place fifth – the highest result of a female Single Skater from Belgium and the best result of a Belgium Skater for decades: Loena Hendrickx has shown remarkable resilience and strength.

The four-part short-form documentary series, which follows the stories of five athletes who competed in the 2021 Speed Skating is now available on ISU.ORG.

The season 2020/21 was challenging to say the least and led to the cancellation of numerous events. Nonetheless in celebration of Figure Skating a special edition of the ISU Skating Awards will be held this year. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented and the public will be treated to an amazing show, featuring some of the greatest athletes from around the world and some exclusive interviews at the ISU Skating Awards on July 10, 2021, which will be live streamed on the Skating ISU YouTube channel.

A year ago, life seemed good for Kyle Ross-Waddell: the young Short Track Speed Skater had made his debut on the ISU World Cup circuit, and was being mentioned as a potential candidate to make the Great Britain team for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

The International Skating Union and Art on Ice are proud to announce that the guest star of the ISU Skating Awards will be none other than James Morrison, multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter and guitarist. He will be performing his famous hit “Wonderful World” to accompany some of the world’s greatest skaters. He has earned his global fame with hits such as “You Give Me Something” and “You Make it Real” without forgetting his critically acclaimed collaboration with Nelly Furtado titled “Broken Strings”. The audience of the ISU Skating Awards will have the honor of seeing him perform “Wonderful World”, on the ISU Skating Awards on July 10, 2021, that will be Streamed on ISU Skating Awards page from 16:00 CEST.

Online voting took place between June 15-22, 2021 on the Proposals included in the summary of Proposals from ISU Members, the Council, the Sports Directors and Technical Committees for changes in the Constitution, General Regulations and Special Regulations. The World's best Figure Skaters including Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN), reigning World Champions Nathan Chen (USA), Anna Shcherbakova (RUS), Anastasia Mishina/Alexander Galliamov (RUS) and Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov (RUS), European Champions, Olympic, World and European medalists are getting ready to compete in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2021/22 in the Olympic season.

As a multiple world Speed Skating champion, Brittany Bowe (USA) went through several ups and downs in her career. “We all have a story,” she said. With her own personal story, Bowe hopes to inspire others.

Sometimes just one photo and two words can change a lot. A little over a year ago, on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, four-time ISU World Ice Dance Champion Guillaume Cizeron of France posted a photo of him and his boyfriend, with a simple message “Celebrate love”. With more than 26 000 “Likes” and more than 800 replies, this is Guillaume’s most popular post.

Coming from the Estonian countryside, it was a long and winding road for Saskia Alusalu (EST) to become an Olympic Speed Skater. The compulsory rest due to the ramifications of the Covid-19 pandemic last season, made her realize how tough the life of a top-athlete is. She skipped the bubble races in Heerenveen and is seeking the best pathway towards the Olympic Games in Beijing next season.

With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Skate Canada informed the International Skating Union it has cancelled the second ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating, the event was scheduled to take place from August 25-28, 2021, at Meadows Arena in Edmonton Canada.
