As a significant step forward in the strategic “ISU Vision 2030” plan, the International Skating Union (ISU) and the Winter Sports Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China (CWSAC) recently held a very fruitful meeting in Beijing (CHN), focused on expanding the collaboration between the two organizations to further elevate ice skating sports and events in China. ISU President Jae Youl Kim, Director General Colin Smith, and CWSAC Director Wang Lei, alongside senior officials, discussed strategies to enhance collaboration, drive innovation and promote sustainability, to the benefit of skaters, fans, and the skating community in China and around the globe.

The 2024 Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy is currently underway in Jakarta, running from August 21 to 23. The event has drawn over 160 skaters from 12 countries, showcasing the best of Short Track Speed Skating in the region.

As announced by ISU President, Jae Youl Kim during the 2024 ISU Congress, the ISU will increase the annual C Contribution to US$ 30,000 per Branch, effective from 2024. This increase includes dedicated funds specifically for implementing Athlete Safeguarding measures.

On occasion of the World Environment Day, the International Skating Union (ISU) highlights its support of a groundbreaking technology aimed at building eco-friendly temporary ice rinks. This innovative project, initiated through a collaboration between the Royal Dutch Skating Association (KNSB) and sponsor partner Daikin, was first introduced and tested during the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Rotterdam (NED). Aligning with ISU Vision 2030 to commit to greater sustainable events, this initiative has set a new benchmark for environmental responsibility in ice-skating sports and achieved remarkable outcomes.

The first ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating event of the season 2023/24, held in Baselga di Piné (ITA), and the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2024 in Gdansk (POL) were not only platforms for showcasing athletic talent but also to introduce Junior Skaters to the values of Clean Sports. The ISU “Pure as Ice” campaign delivered this season its famous outreach program where Junior Skaters were invited to learn the fundamentals of Anti-Doping education.

This does not alter the obligation of ISU Members to adhere to those Rules contained in the ISU Statutes (in particular but not limited to Article 6, paragraph 3 and Article 7, of the ISU Constitution) which are not specifically referred to in this Communication.
